Avène in the upper Orb valley
At the very tip of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park, the Orb River originates in Romiguières, modestly carving out an opening into the upper valley that takes visitors aback with a magnificent view of teh Ceilhes lake and Avène dam. Here the Orb unfurls with greater force, weaving between holm oaks and chestnut trees, and passing through the vineyards that bear its name: this is where we find the regional Upper Orb Valley wines.

All types of French vine-growing farms can be found within a 10 km radius given that the land lies over a very old faultline due to the shifting of tectonic plates. The vineyards are planted at high altitude, at the foothills of the Massif Central.
