thermal spring water

Thermal water is naturally mineralized spring water with a composition suitable for therapeutic uses. It has a series of characteristics that provide it with health-promoting properties, recognized by the French National Academy of Medicine

The origin of the water

Avène thermal water comes from a spring with deep origins resulting from very old rainfall. We now know that it has remained infiltrated in the ground for more than forty or fifty years (isotopic dosage measures with tritium).

COMPOSITION

The original point of discharge of Avène water is the Sainte-Odile spring. The historical spring was declared to be of public benefit in 1874

Avène Thermal Spring Water

Thermal water is naturally mineralized spring water with a composition suitable for therapeutic uses.  It boasts a series of characteristics that provide it with health-promoting properties,  recognized by the French National Academy of Medicin

The origin of the water

The water migrates very slowly from the depths to the surface within a geological layer of dolomite and dolomitic limestone, absorbing minerals as it moves along ascending pathways.

THE CONCEPT OF AN AQUIFER

Aquifers occur at varying depths in underground layers that are sufficiently porous and permeable to allow the infiltrated water to be stored and to circulate. Some aquifers are very large and may contain hundreds of billions of tons of water.

EXTRACTION SITES IN STE ODILE AND VAL D’ORB, AND AVÈNE THERMAL SPRING WATER

Apart from what emerges naturally, the technique of extraction or boreholes is used to collect the Avène Thermal Spring Water and ensure it is not subject to any chemical or microbiological pollution from the surface.

COMPOSITION

The original point of discharge of Avène Thermal Spring Water is the Ste Odile spring. The traditional spring, declared to be of public interest in 1874, continues to impress with its abundance and the constant flow of 70,000 litres per hour. This thermal water is classified as having a low mineral content and by the presence of both calcium bicarbonate and magnesium. Its main characteristics include a significant amount silicates, a low sodium, a calcium / magnesium ratio of 2 (expressed in mg / l minerals) and a wide variety of different trace elements.
